Bhubaneswar: Flood situation triggered by heavy rain following Cyclone ‘Titli’ is gradually improving, particularly in Ganjam and Gajapati districts, informed Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), Bishnupada Sethi today.
Sethi informed that though water is fast receding from several parts of Ganjam and Gajapati districts, many villages are still marooned. However, adequate steps are being taken to expedite relief and rescue operations in the affected blocks, he added.
The Community Health Centre (CHC) in Aska has been made operational while a mobile RO plant with a capacity of 3,000 litres per hour has been installed to provide drinking water to people, informed sources.
Two helicopters have been pressed into service for air dropping food packets in Ganjam and Gajapati districts.
At present, over 600 personnel of Odisha Fire Services department along with ODRAF and NDRF teams have been deployed to carry out road clearing, rescue and relief operations in Ganjam, Gajapati and Rayagada districts.
Nearly 200 MT and 100 MT of cattle feed is being sent to Ganjam and Gajapati districts respectively by the Fisheries and Animal Resources department.
Odisha Chief Secretary, Aditya Prasad Padhi informed that once road repair and restoration work is completed, re-installation of electric poles can be expedited.
“We hope that electricity supply can be restored in block headquarters in next 3 to 4 days while it may take another week’s time in villages,” said Padhi.
Padhi further informed that free kitchens are operational in various places particularly in schools and multi-purpose shelters. The cooked meals will be provided to flood-hit people for the next seven days, he added.
