Bhubaneswar: The Revenue and Disaster Management Department today asked the collectors of seven districts to remain alert in view of the cyclonic storm ‘Pabuk’ which now lays centred some 1500 kms from Port Blair. The system is likely to move west-northwestwards and emerge into Andaman and Nicobar Islands on January 5, informed met sources.

The system is very likely to northwestwards and cross Andaman on January 6 and then recurve towards Myanmar coast and weaken further by January 7-8, added sources.

In a letter, the Revenue and Disaster Management Department today asked the collectors of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Puri, Ganjam and Khurda to remain alert.

As the sea condition is likely to remain rough to high in Andaman Sea and adjoining areas of east-central and south Bay of Bengal, fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea from January 4 to 7.
