Cyclone Fani victims in Khurda allege govt apathy
Khurda: Cyclone Fani-affected residents in Khurda Municipality areas today gheraoed the office of the local Tehslidar alleging apathy of the district administration in providing post-disaster assistance.
As per the allegations, no assistance has been provided to the locals and their requests for the same have fallen on deaf ears.
“We have not received any kind of assistance after the cyclone. Though the administration had assured us assistance, nothing has been given to us. I have repaired my house which was damaged in Cyclone Fani after taking loan,” said Badrinarayan Das, a cyclone victim.
Similarly, hundreds of residents of 11 mouzas of Jatni including the municipality area have levelled similar allegations.
“The district administration refused to provide any assistance to the people of 12 mouzas as the land we own has been registered under the name of Lord Jagannath. Protesting the decision, we have come to lodge complaint with the Khurda collector,” said Sunil Kumar Routray, sarpanch of Chanaghara Kusumati panchayat.
