Jajpur: Residents of Pritipur village under Binjharpur Tehsil in Jajpur district allegedly abused a lady Revenue Inspector (RI) and thrashed a peon who had accompanied her to the village for conducting an assessment of the damage caused by Cyclone Fani.

As per reports, some women in the village started to hurled abuses at the woman official and thrashed the peon after tying him to a tree. The villagers were reportedly angry over irregularities in distribution of relief materials post cyclone.

"The villagers were in rage when we went to take stock of the situation. They alleged no relief or compensation was provided to them during Cyclone Titli last year. Later, they tied my peon to a tree and thrashed him," said, RI, Anita Samadi.

The Revenue Inspector Union later met the District Collector and demanded protection during field visits and immediate action against the accused.

Responding to the incident, Jajpur Collector, Ranjan Kumar Das assured that strict action will be taken against those involved in the incident.
