Puri: ‘Cyclegiri 2019’- a cycle rally to mark the ongoing 30th Road Safety Week was organised in Puri town on Sunday. People from all walks of life including athletes, social activists, youths and government employees in hundreds participated in the rally.

In the wake of rising fatalities in road mishaps in the State, Cyclegiri with the slogan ‘Safe Drive, Save Life’ aimed at spreading awareness among the public regarding traffic rules and careful driving.

The rally kicked off near Singhadwara and covered various parts of the town including Market Chhak, BalagandiChhak, Medical Chhak, Gundicha Mandir and concluded near Chakratirtha sea beach.

International players like Anuradha Biswal, Shradhanjali Samantaray and Guinness Book record holder Durga Charan Mishra were among the prominent persons present during the event.

Stressing upon the benefits of cycling, Samantaray said, “By cycling we can save petrol which is gradually exhausting due to the increase in the use of motorised vehicles and this initiative can create a healthy and sustainable environment.”

A resident of Puri, SaswatTripathy said, “Though I have other vehicles, most of the times I use bicycle for transportation. I like riding bicycle and enjoyed participating in the rally.”

"By riding bicycles, we can stay fit as well as save money and petrol. Besides, we can also protect the environment from pollution. We have organised the rally this year with the message ‘Safe Drive, Save Life’ to create awareness among people," stated organiser of Cyclegiri, Biswanath Mishra.
