Cuttack firing: 5 arrested, Rinku Jena shot dead over teasing, informs DCP

In a shocking revelation, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Cuttack stated that Rinku Jena was shot dead following a scuffle over teasing. Police have arrested all five accused persons involved in the murder, the DCP told media on Friday.

According to the DCP, what began as casual banter soon turned into heated accusations and counter-accusations, ultimately leading to the firing. After the shooting, Rinku was not immediately taken to the hospital. Instead, the accused allegedly conspired to frame one individual in an attempt to help the others escape responsibility.

The delay in providing timely medical treatment proved fatal, resulting in Rinku’s death.

Police identified the main accused as Huku alias Utkal Keshari Pasayat, who allegedly fired the gunshot at Rinku. Another accused, Nandu alias Abhijit Mohanty, had reportedly brought the firearm to the scene. Notably, Nandu was also wanted in connection with a separate case in Bhubaneswar.

The DCP further informed that all the accused were under the influence of intoxicants at the time of the incident. CCTV footage of the incident has also been obtained by the police as part of the investigation.

"Six of them had gathered on the day of the incident to consume liquor. Following some teasing among the group, one of them pulled the trigger of a gun, and Rinku was struck by a bullet in the middle of his chest. Preliminary investigation has revealed that he was not shifted to the hospital immediately," said Cuttack DCP Rishikesh Khilari.
