Cuttack: A preliminary estimation has pegged a loss of Rs 4.11 crore in whole of Cuttack district of Odisha due to Cyclone Phailin.
 
Though the cyclone hit the district with a maximum wind speed of 110 kmph, the district administration has estimated a heavy loss after making preliminary observations.
 
Cuttack district Collector Girish S N has written to the state government seeking an assistance of Rs 4.11 crore towards house collapse aid, fodder, clothing, utensils, removal of sand from farm land, assistance to destitute, nutritional food to children and transporting of people to safer places due to the severe cyclone.
 
According to a release issued by the district administration, the authorities sought Rs 2.52 crore towards house collapse assistance without mentioning how many houses were actually damaged. It has also sought Rs 84 lakh towards providing assistance to poor destitute of the district.
 
Similarly, the district collector has mentioned that Rs 30 lakh were spent in evacuating the people from low-lying areas to safer places.
 
The administration also claims to have spent Rs 27.38 lakh towards providing nutritious food to children during the cyclone and Rs 8.73 lakh towards utensils and another Rs 8.11 lakh towards providing clothing to the affected people.
