Bhubaneswar: A customs official at the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar found himself in trouble after an air passenger accused him of threatening with dire consequences and forcefully demanding a bribe.

As per sources, one Kuppuswamy Nagarajan, a native of Shevapet in Tamil Nadu, arrived at the BPI Airport from Bangkok in AirAsia flight FD 112 on Tuesday.

Reportedly, Nagarajan was intercepted by a customs official who allegedly forced him to pay a 'bribe' of Rs 5000 for carrying gold, even though he produced all the legal documents.

The passenger however opposed the on-duty officer later when he denied handing him a receipt of the same. It was when the CISF personnel interfered, the customs official returned the money to Nagarajan.

Meanwhile, GST Additional Commissioner, Santosh Mohanty has directed for a detailed probe. "Customs is the face of Airport and there is no room for such blatant mistakes. Stringent action will be taken."
