Bhadrak: The District Civil Supplies Officer Srikar Majhi was caught off guard on his arrival at his office on Tuesday after some BJP members chased him for not allowing procurement of paddy brought by women self help groups (SHG).

The saffron party members allegedly manhandled the CSO for arriving late to the office. The BJP members along with the SHG members were waiting for the officer to hold a meeting on paddy procurement as he did not allow procurement from these groups.

As per SHG members, the officer had announced for procurement of paddy following which these members purchased food grain from marginal farmers. They were, however, not allowed to participate in the procurement drive, the members alleged.

Apparently disgruntled over this, the SHG members staged a sit in in front of the CSO office to sort out the issue.

As the officer arrived late to office, the BJP members including Akshay Sahu, BJP District President and former BJP MLA Bishnu Sethi ran out of patience and allegedly had a scuffle with the officer.

“We had already procured the paddy from the farmers as per the notice but civil supplies office decided not to procure paddy from us. We have been sitting on strike since Monday, but the supplies officer did not bother to meet us. Ultimately he was dragged by the BJP party members for discussion,” Malati Hati Secretary of Kuntalasuni Self Help Group said.

However, CSO played down the incident and refused to comment further.

To much surprise, the supplies officer did not even lodge a complaint in this regard.

“They wanted to discuss the matter and we discussed it. However, the CSO has nothing to do with the issue related to the procurement of the paddy,” Srikar Majhi District Supplies Officer said.
