CRUT issues clarification over ‘Bus Driver Referral Programme’ advertisement

The Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) issued a clarification on Monday regarding an advertisement related to the so-called ‘bus driver referral programme’. CRUT officials stated that the banners were put up without any official approval from the authorities.

According to sources, the banner was earlier noticed on the inner wall of an EV station within the bus depot on the previous day (Sunday), triggering concern and prompting an official response from CRUT.

Calling the advertisement misleading, CRUT said it has no connection with the organisation. Officials further warned that strict action would be taken against the individual whose mobile number appears on the allegedly unofficial banner.

Questions have now been raised over how the advertisement was placed inside the bus depot premises. Chandrasekharpur Police will investigate the matter. As part of the probe, EV station staff will be questioned, and CCTV footage from inside and outside the depot will be thoroughly examined.

Worth mentioning, earlier in another incident, CRUT had hogged the headlines. Two people, including a woman, were killed on the spot after an ‘Ama Bus’ had rammed into an auto-rickshaw at Rupali Square in Bhubaneswar on January 3.

Reportedly, the bus had hit an auto-rickshaw from behind while several other vehicles were halted at the busy traffic junction.

The auto-rickshaw had been positioned behind a school bus when the collision took place. The impact was so severe that the ill-fated three-wheeler had been completely crushed into mangled debris and pushed forward, hitting the rear portion of the school bus and causing damage to it as well.

The auto driver and a woman passenger had died instantly at the scene.
