CPI (M) stages demonstration in front of Odisha Raj Bhawan
Bhubaneswar: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged demonstration in front of the Odisha Raj Bhawan today demanding farm loan waiver and Rs 800 bonus per quintal of paddy for farmers of the state.
According to sources, the CPI(M) members alleged that the State government is misleading farmers in the name of KALIA Yojana and accused it of shedding crocodile tears before the Centre in New Delhi.
While the neighbouring states are providing bonus to farmers, the State Cooperation Minister Surjya Narayan Patro’s statements are anti-farmer, party members alleged.
The CPI (M) will very soon bring the farmers of the State together and organise a 30-kilometer padyatra. The party will march from Humar to Chatrapur and then from Digapahandi to Berhampur, party sources said.
Party’s state committee secretary, Alikeswar Patnaik, said “We presented our demands before the State and Central government today. We want farm loan waiver for Odisha farmers and immediate release of bonus by the State government.”
No representatives of the State government or the ruling-BJD were available for comments on the allegations brought by the CPI(M).
