Bhubaneswar: The Central Committee of the CPI (Maoist), putting at bay all the blame-game over the month-long abduction episode that involved two Italian nationals and BJD MLA Jhina Hikaka, on Wednesday claimed that the whole abduction drama was sketched by the committee itself.

In a letter circulated to the media houses, the committee which justified the kidnappings condemned the recent statements of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram at Rajya Sabha and said that the acts were not kidnappings rather arrests made by the tortured tribals. Through the arrests they were pressing for their long-sought demands, it said.

The letter also condemned the Union Minister’s statement that the extremists were changing their game plan by kidnapping young collectors, democratic representatives and foreigners and forcing the government to come on its knees.

Reasoning justification of the kidnappings, the letter read that the developmental activities of the collectors were forcing the downtrodden to displace and continue reel under poverty further. The foreigners, visiting the tribal pockets were more interested in taking objectionable photographs of tribal people than tourism, the letter said. It also mentioned the elected representatives of the state as part of Operation Green Hunt.
