Bhubaneswar: With 86 new cases in the last 24 hours, the number of COVID-19 cases in Odisha rose to 1189, informed State Health and Family Welfare Department today. While the active COVID-19 cases in Odisha stood to 789, the death toll remained at 7 and recoveries stood at 393.

Of the new cases, while 46 samples were found coronavirus positive from Jajpur, 11 cases were detected in Cuttack, 6 from Nayagarh, 5 from Ganjam, three each cases from Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Khurda and Puri districts, two from Bolangir and one from Sundergarh district.

As per the data shared by the H&FW Department, 80 cases have been detected from quarantine centres, one from containment zone while five others are local contacts.

Here are the details of 86 new cases as shared by the State I&PR department:

  • 46 cases in Jajpur (All in quarantine centres. 37 WB, 1 Telangana, 2 TN & 4 UAE, 1 CG & 1 Haryana returnees)
  • 3 cases in Khurdha (1 in quarantine centre, Maharashtra returnee & 2 local case)
  • 5 cases in Ganjam (3 in quarantine centres, 2 Surat & 1 TN returnees. 2 local case)
  • 3 cases in Puri (All in quarantine centres. 1 Gujarat & 2 WB returnees)
  • 1 case in Sundergarh (Containment zone. Local case)
  • 3 cases in Keonjhar (All in quarantine centres. West Bengal returnees)
  • 3 cases in Bhadrak (All in quarantine centres. Maharashtra returnees)
  • 6 cases in Nayagarh (All in quarantine centres. Surat returnees)
  • 11 cases in Cuttack (10 in quarantine centres. 4 WB, 3 Gujarat, 1 TN & 2 Telangana returnees. 1 local case)
  • 5 cases in Balasore (All in quarantine centres. 4 Maharashtra & 1 Telangana returnees)

Meanwhile, a total of 5,014 RT-PCR tests were conducted in State in the last 24 hours. With this, the cumulative tests conducted for COVID-19 in the State till date rose to 1,13,446.

Earlier on Thursday, 50 persons were cured of COVID-19 in Odisha taking the total recoveries to 393. This was the second time that 50 or more Coronavirus recoveries have been reported in a single day. Earlier on May 18, highest 57 recoveries were reported in the state.

The government informed that 22 COVID-19 patients recovered in Ganjam, 15 recoveries were reported from Balasore, five from Bhadrak along with three each from Jajpur and Boudh and one each from Mayurbhanj and Rourkela.
