Cuttack: The Orissa High Court has taken cognisance of an alleged assault on an advocate and subsequent boycott of courts by Cuttack lawyers for what they called police inaction over the issue.

Taking up a resolution moved by the Orissa High Court Bar Association over alleged attack on advocate Iswar Chandra Das, a Division Bench, headed by Chief Justice V Gopala Gowda, on Thursday directed the Cuttack DCP to submit a status report on police investigation into the matter by Monday.

As directed, the city police on Thursday informed the High Court that based on the FIR filed by advocate Iswar Chandra Das of Chahata Nagar, two persons of the locality were arrested on Tuesday and they have been forwarded to court.

The two accused are booked under several charges, including that of the stringent section of 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC.

Das had alleged that he and his son were attacked by some unknown persons last Friday around 11 PM. While Das has suffered grievous injuries in his eye, his son has suffered injuries in the head and hand.

Alleging police inaction over the issue, all the lawyers of Cuttack city have been boycotting the courts since Monday.
