(image) Bhubaneswar: The Kujanga court on Monday granted a conditional anticipatory bail to Agriculture Minister Damodar Rout for his anti-Dalit remarks.

The court granted the anticipatory bail to the Minister on condition that he would execute personal bond for a sum of Rs 20,000 with two sureties.

The bail was granted on the condition that he cooperates with the investigating agency; he will not influence the witnesses and in future he would refrain from giving such kind of speeches.

Earlier, Rout had approached the HC, seeking anticipatory bail after police registered a case against him for allegedly referring to Jagatsinghpur MP Bibhu Prasad Tarei, MLA Bishnu Charan Das and Jagatsinghpur ADM Upendra Mallick as "Harijans" at a public meeting in Jagatsinghpur in August 2010. In his petition, Rout said he did not intend to hurt the feelings of people of any community or caste.

However, the High Court had asked the minister to approach the lower court and obtain the bail.
