Koraput: Two persons were killed and three others sustained injuries after the car in which they were travelling rammed into a roadside tree near Tapajhari under Boipariguda police limits in Koraput district late last night.

As per police report, one of the deceased was identified as Chaitanya Prasad Mohanty while his wife’s identity could not be established.

Sources claimed that all five were residents of Kakatpur area in Puri district and four of them belonged to one family. The fifth person was identified as the driver of the car.

The couple’s son, who sustained critical injuries in the accident, was rushed to the Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital (SLNMCH) and later shifted to Vishakhapatnam hospital after his condition deteriorated.

The other two injured, including the driver have received minor injuries in the incident and undergoing treatment at SLNMCH, reports added.

According to sources, the car was en route to Malkangiri from Puri when it hit a roadside tree at around 1 pm last night.

On getting information police rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation.

“Chaitanya died on the spot, while his wife succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital. Though the reason behind the mishap is yet to be ascertained, it is being suspected that driver lost control over the vehicle due to drowsiness,” informed a police official.
