A woman from Kumbharpada area in Sambalpur has alleged medical negligence at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), claiming that surgical gauze was left inside her abdomen during a caesarean delivery performed in September last year.
According to her complaint, she delivered a baby boy through a C-section at the government hospital on September 24. However, she reportedly began experiencing severe and persistent abdominal pain soon after the surgery, which continued for nearly two months.
The woman alleged that despite informing the attending doctor and seeking follow-up treatment, her condition did not improve. She further claimed that eight days after the surgery, two pieces of cloth came out through her rectum while she was using the toilet, causing panic and additional health complications.
A recent ultrasound examination reportedly revealed the presence of foreign material inside her abdomen.
“There has been constant pain in my abdomen. I could not even feed my baby properly. I have video evidence. Instead of accepting responsibility, the doctor accused me of having swallowed the cloth,” the woman alleged.
The accused doctor has not issued any statement regarding the allegations so far.
Meanwhile, Sambalpur Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Dr. Pradip Hota said that a detailed inquiry would be conducted into the matter.

“As per the complainant, she underwent a C-section delivery in September, during which some foreign objects were allegedly left inside her abdomen. A thorough investigation will be carried out to ascertain the facts,” Dr. Hota stated.
The incident has sparked concerns over patient safety and accountability in public healthcare institutions, with calls for strict action if negligence is established.
