Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Sahu informed that as many as 20 platoons of police force will be deployed in the capital city to maintain law and order during the shutdown. Apart from PCR vans, other police patrolling vehicles will be deployed to keep an eye on the situation.

As the Monsoon Session of the Assembly is underway, special attention will be given to the security of VIPs especially officers, ministers and legislators. Security will be tightened near State Assembly, Secretariat and other important offices in the city, Sahu said.

“Any unlawful activities committed during the bandh will be taken seriously and criminal action will be taken against the culprits,” he said.

Similarly, Cuttack DCP Akhilesvar Singh informed that 15 platoons of police will be deployed in the millennium city.

Earlier on Saturday, the State Government had announced that all schools in the State will remain closed during the day.

Similarly, the government had directed all the secretaries of departments, collectors and district magistrates to ask all the officers and staffs to attend office by 9:30 AM and take preventive measures to maintain law and order and ensure maintenance of essential services in their respective districts.

The Congress is observing shutdown from 6 am to 3 pm as part of the party’s nation-wide bandh tomorrow. The Odisha unit of the party has exhorted all supporters and general public for support to make the bandh successful as a mark of protest against the unbridled rise in prices of petrol and diesel under the Modi-led NDA government.
