Malkangiri: A lawyer has filed an FIR for alleged "misbehaviour and his illegal detention" by two policemen who also slapped a case against him for allegedly assaulting them after being unable to show documents of his vehicle here on Sunday.

Lawyer Lambodar Turuk, also secretary of Malkangiri district bar association, has alleged in his FIR that a police team comprising a sub-inspector and an assistant sub-inspector asked him to show his two-wheeler's documents when he was talking to a friend beside a road.

An altercation between the policemen and Turuk began over the issue as his two-wheeler had no registration number.

"Though I gave them my identity, police officers took me to the police station and detained me for about four hours," Turuk has alleged in his FIR.

When this news spread, a large number of lawyers reached the police station and demanded Turuk's release. Later he was released.

When contacted, Malkangiri Superintendent of Police Akhileswar Singh said "Checking of vehicles in the town was going on. Turuk had no valid registration number and other documents of his motor-bike which forced the policemen to detain him".

Meanwhile, the district bar association president Prahallad Dora demanded that the IIC, SI and ASI of the police station be transferred and a judicial inquiry conducted into the whole episode.

The bar association has also given a 12-hour Malkangiri bandh tomorrow to protest against the incident.
