Cops from 4 states meet in Bhubaneswar to discuss inter-state issues

Bhubaneswar: A meeting of Eastern Regional Cooperation Committee for effective and focused approach to curb crimes having inter-state ramifications was held in Bhubaneswar on Friday.

Director General of Odisha Police (DGP), RP Sharma chaired the meeting which was also attended by delegates from Jharkhand, Bihar, and West Bengal. SPs of bordering districts of Odisha, and their counterparts from the neighbouring states along with their Range DIGs/IGs were also present.

The meeting mainly focussed on crime management in border areas. Inter-state issues pertaining to cyber crimes, fake Indian currency circulation, ponzi schemes, human and drug trafficking, and firearms smuggling were deliberated during the meeting.

Exchange and sharing of criminal intelligence between neighbouring states was also stressed at the meeting.

Senior police officers from neighbouring states highlighted on several crimes of localised importance like sand lifting on border areas, smuggling of antiquities from one state to another and clandestine trade of gold.
