Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police has placed a PCR van in-charge under suspension for dereliction of duty in connection with assault on a man by three miscreants in full public glare in Laxmi Sagar area of Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.

The victim, Parbindar Pal Singh, who works as a treasurer at Bhagaban tower was brutally assaulted by three youths following a quarrel over parking of vehicle.

Narrating the whole incident, Singh said, “I was on my way to home after picking up my children from school when I saw a car was parked blocking the road leading to our apartment. I got down from my vehicle and requested the three youths to move the vehicle from there. However, I anticipated from their behaviour that they might attack me and so I rushed into the apartment with my kids leaving behind my vehicle.”

“Later, a PCR van staff called me out of my apartment and as soon as I reached near the vehicle, the three miscreants attacked me in front of the PCR van staff. They hit my face and head with brick and stone but the cop remained a mute spectator,” Singh alleged.

Singh who sustained injuries on his face was admitted to hospital for treatment. After a complaint, Laxmi Sagar police has registered a case and launched a probe into the matter. While the three attackers have been identified, two of them have been arrested so far, police said.

Later in the day, the third accused, identified as Deepak Jena & reportedly the nephew of a former corporator, was arrested. The twin city Police Commissioner said that there was a dispute over vehicle parking and the prima facie investigation indicates that the attack wasn't pre-meditated. Chargesheet against all the accused will be filed in 3 days, the Commissioner added.

Moreover, the in-charge of the PCR was permanently removed from the police department because of negligence in duty.

Meanwhile, taking a strong note of the assault, Manjinder S Sirsa, the National Spokesperson of Shiromani Akali Dal tweeted, "Shocked & angry to see such merciless hate attack on Amritdhari Sikh Parvinder Pal Singh in Bhubaneshwar; attack looks planned with full support of local administration since the police man is seen in the video who doesn't help the innocent person."

"Parvinder Singh was attacked cos he protested against demolition of Sikh Heritage Mangu Mutt in Puri, I condemn this attack & appeal to Odisha CM & Police to take action against culprits & ensure safety of Sikhs," read Manjinder's another post.
