Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Wednesday issued notice to the health secretary asking him to show cause why contempt proceedings shall not be initiated against him for noncompliance of an order pertaining to filling up of vacant posts of doctors in the state.

Taking up a contempt petition filed by advocate Dilip Mohapatra, a Division Bench of Chief Justice V Gopala Gowda and Justice B K Mishra issued the notice to Health Secretary P K Mohapatra asking him to file his reply within two weeks.

Disposing of a PIL filed by the advocate, the high court in June 2011 had asked the government to fill up all vacant posts of doctors within 12 weeks.

The government was also asked to provide basic facilities in all primary health centers and dispensaries, particularly those located in tribal and remote areas.

The HC had also asked the government to file a compliance report after filling up all vacant posts.
