A container truck that veered off the road and plunged into the Harabhangi Dam in Odisha's Gajapati district has remained submerged for more than 24 hours, despite ongoing recovery efforts. The incident occurred on Thursday near Kristapur village under Adaba police station limits.
As per reports, the ill-fated vehicle, which was travelling from Rayagada to Cuttack, lost balance while taking a turn and fell into the dam. The driver acted swiftly, leaping out of the truck just in time to save himself. Though the container sank, the driver survived without major injuries.
Recovery Efforts Face Hurdles
Teams from Mohana fire services and Adaba police have been engaged in efforts to pull the container out. However, with more than 40 feet of water in the dam, the task has proved to be extremely challenging. The high water level, attributed to incessant rainfall in the region, has further complicated the operation.
Operation Continues Amid Adverse Conditions
According to sources, authorities continue their attempts to retrieve the submerged vehicle, though the sheer depth of the dam and strong water currents have slowed progress. Officials indicated that recovery will take more time as conditions remain difficult.
