Kalahandi: Odisha Congress on Friday slammed the State government for its alleged indifference to the plight of flood-hit farmers in the district.

Odisha Congress Campaign Committee president Bhakta Das said that the situation in the district has worsen after it was hit by a series of floods due to incessant rain. Though crops in 50,000 hectare of agricultural land got damaged in the floods, no step has been taken by government for assessing the loss.

"The government is yet to disburse the insurance money to farmers for 2017. Neither it has been able to make an estimation of the loss due to floods nor able to contain the dengue outbreak in the region. The State government is also unable to rescue the people of Kalahandi and other parts who are stranded in flood-hit Kerala," Das alleged.

He further alleged that the Naveen government is presently busy for the upcoming 2019 elections and misutlising people's money for political gains.

Meanwhile, no one from the ruling-BJD government was available for comments on the Congress' allegations.
