Congress organises ‘Jagran Samavesh’ in Bolangir
Bolangir: The Congress party today organised a mega public meeting ‘Jagran Samavesh’ in Bolangir ahead of the general elections 2019. During the meeting, the national party raised the issues of farm loan waivers, and Minimum Support Price (MSP) hike at the meeting.
According to sources, the mega event was attended by Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra, Odisha PCC president Niranjan Patnaik, AICC secretary Mastan Ali, former MPs and MLAs of the district and other senior leaders of the party.
Local leaders at the meeting raised various issues including declaration of drought-status to the entire district, farm loan waivers, speedy completion of Lower Suktel Irrigation project, establishment of permanent High Court bench etc.
They also criticised the policies of the Centre and the State govt. Later, a 12-point charter of demands was submitted to the district collector, Arindam Dakua.
The event witnessed huge gathering of Congress workers and farmers from the district. Former BJD MLA from Loisingha constituency Ramakanta Seth also joined the party at the meeting.
“Both the Centre and State governments have exploited the farmers with false promises. Alternatively, they said that relief to farmers will endanger economy. In this regard, we presented our demands to the collector,” said Narasingha Mishra.
Countering the allegations, Lotus Sarangi, President of Biju Yuva Janata Dal of Bolangir said, “Congress party is coming up with such comments under frustration after CM Naveen launched KALIA scheme for farmers in the State. The scheme will benefit all section of farmers in the State.”
On the other hand, Bolangir BJP spokesperson, Prabhas Panigrahi, said “The Congress party is fighting for existence in the State. The party workers are also doubtful about its future. This event is just a political eyewash.”
