Rayagada: A controversy cropped up today over the death of veteran Congress leader and former Odisha minister Ramachandra Ullaka after his body reached his native place here from Bhubaneswar for cremation amidst allegation that the tribal leader was murdered.

As Ullaka`s body was being taken in a procession, Shiv Shankar Ullaka and Gourishankar Ulaka, two sons of Janaki Ulaka, second out of the three wives of the Congress leader, alleged that their father was "killed" by somebody. Slogan shouting supporters of the leader`s sons marched towards the procession and prevented the body from being taken for cremation.

The sons filed a brief "two-line" complaint tonight at Rayagada police station suspecting that their father was killed by somebody, police said. Based on the complaint, Rayagada police had asked the Commissionerate of Police at Bhubaneswar to file a report in this connection as the Congress leader passed in the wee hours at the state capital.

They have also been asked to get the report of the doctor who was on duty and examined Ulaka, police said. The Commissionerate has been asked to send the report by fax immediately to Rayagada so that police could intervene in the matter and deal with the situation. In view of the sudden development, the cremation was put on hold, police said.
