Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the general elections, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) today appointed Chhattisgarh Health Minister and senior Congress leader TS Singh Deo as temporary in-charge of Odisha.

A statement issued by the AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal said, party’s national president Rahul Gandhi has appointed Singh Deo as temporary in-charge of Odisha while the current in-charge of the party’s affairs in the State, Jitendra Singh will continue in his post as usual.

Elected from Ambikapur constituency, Singh Deo's active political campaigning helped him bring his party to power by dislodging the incumbent Raman Singh-led BJP government in Chhattisgarh.

Talks are doing rounds that the Congress top brass’ decision to hand over new role to Singh Deo is to galvanise the party’s Odisha unit for the upcoming elections. During a recent visit to Odisha, the senior Congress leader had toured several parts of Jagatsinghpur district with a team of Odisha Congress’ Manifesto Committee to seek public opinion.
