Bhubaneswar: The ruling Biju Janata Dal has been increasing its base while the base of the Opposition Congress has been declining in the state. This is not the report of any newspaper or survey report of any psephologist. The party has admitted the decline in its political base to the ruling BJD in its political resolution adopted at the end of the extended session of the Working Committee. The resolution stated that the party was shocked at the results of the panchayat elections and it was time for political introspection for the Congressmen.

The party after the conclusion of the extended session of the Working Committee admitted that the influence of the BJD has grown in the state while there has been a substantial decline in the political base of the Congress. The resolution stated that the BJD supremo was trying to play a bigger role at the national level while senior Congress leaders felt that it was time introspection and proper evaluation for the Congress party especially after the shocking performance in the panchayat elections. "We are taking measures to increase the popularity of the Congress and acceptance by the people of the state,"said Niranjan Patnaik, the PCC Chief.
