Bhubaneswar: Vowing to fight against the ‘corrupt BJD government’, young Congress leader Prasad Harichandan today assumed charge as the president of Pradesh Congress Committee in the presence of top party leaders including Odisha in-charge BK Hariprasad in a special programme on the foundation day of the party here at Congress Bhawan.

“It is an auspicious day for me to assume a big responsibility on the foundation day. I promise to work together for the development of the party as well as Odisha”, Prasad said.

“We are united. So, Congress will come back”, he added.

Launching a sketching attack on the BJD, the former Satyabadi legislator said the people of the state have become intolerant as the government has been mired in various scam and scandals.

“From top to bottom, the Naveen Patnaik-led government is mired in various scams. People, who have been suffering for last 14 years, are much disappointed and are looking for an alternative. Congress today promised to fight against a 14-year old corrupt government and to assist people in fulfilling their dreams” Harichandan told media after assuming the PCC office formally.

On the other hand, BJD commented on Prasad’s views. Party spokesperson Pratap Dev said “Congress criticizing BJD is nothing new. They have been criticising our party for last 14 years. In the current situation, Congress is not a challenge for the BJD”.

Other top party leaders like Subhankar Sarkar, Narasingha Mishra, Niranjan Pattanaik, MP Ranjib Biswal and outgoing PCC president Jayadev Jena were present in the ceremony.
