Cong to seek young candidates for next Assly, LS elections
Bhubaneswar: The Congress on Friday announced that 30 per cent of its candidates in next assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Orissa would be youths.
"The party will provide 30 per cent of tickets in Orissa to young men and women for the next assembly and Lok Sabha polls," AICC`s Orissa in-charge Jagdish Tytler told reporters here after launching a membership drive by the Youth Congress at Cuttack.
Stating that the youths must be capable, active and energetic with leadership qualities to secure nomination, Tytler said the Congress would be able to take on the ruling BJD in the state if the young generation came to the forefront of politics.
AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi was likely to visit the state shortly for a road show in order to bolster the party`s prospects and attract more youngsters, he said.
The majority of voters in the state were below 30 years of age, he said.
