Cong leader Ashima Mahananda dies of cancer
Bhubaneswar: Senior Congress leader and secretary of All India Mahila Congress (AIMC), Ashima Mahananda died of cancer on Wednesday.
Mahananda passed away at 8:40 am at a private hospital here, family sources said.
In April, she was appointed by National Commission for Women (NCW) as a member of the three-member team to investigate the gangrape of an Odia woman in New Delhi. The team comprised of Mahananda, NCW member Hemlata Kheria and social activist Manasi Pradhan.
In October 2011, Mahananda who was heading the Odisha Pradesh Mahila Congress (OPMC) for several years, was appointed as the AIMC secretary.
Senior Congress leaders including Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president Jayadev Jena condoled the death of Mahananda.
