Bhubaneswar: Congress on Sunday asked Odisha’s Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to resign and demanded a probe against him by the central agency in the chit fund scam.

"We demand the Chief Minister resign immediately as evidence gathered so far by the CBI in the ponzi scam is sufficient enough to nail him," Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Narasinha Mishra told reporters here.

The CBI should launch an investigation against Patnaik and interrogate him in connection with the chit fund scam as there was prima facie evidence with the central agency about his role in the scam, the Congress leader said.

Moreover, BJD leaders had welcomed the CBI probe initially and now when Naveen Niwas was scanner, they were terming it as politically motivated, he said.

“If BJD thinks the probe is not going well who stops them in filing a petition before SC?” Narasimha asked.

BJD’s spokesperson Pratap Deb said, “From the statements of Pyarimohan and BJP leaders, it is understood the saffron party is using the OJM chief as a pawn.”

Further, he added CBI probe seems to be going in the direction of settling some issues with BJD.
“To keep the interest of people of the state and respect of the party intact, we will come down to streets and knock the doors of court if needed,” Deb said.

BJP’s senior leader Pratap Sadangi said, “They (BJD) are not feeling safe.”
