Cuttack: The minor girl, battling for life with 70% burn injury for last 10 days at the SCB Medical College and Hospital here after allegedly being set on fire by two youths in Kendrapara district few days back, will be shifted to Safdarjung hospital in New Delhi on Thursday, an official said.

"We have received consent of the girl’s family members to move her to Safdarjung hospital in New Delhi,” SCB’s emergency officer B N Maharana said.

The 15-year old victim, accompanied by a team of four doctors will be taken by an air-ambulance, he added.

On Wednesday afternoon, the girl was shifted to Central ICU from the burns ward of the hospital after her condition deteriorated.

“Though she is responding to the treatment, her condition is still critical,” another official of SCB stated.

A sense of fear still prevails among the villagers of Kharinashi under Mahakalapada police limits following the incident which has sent shock waves across the State.

Though the police have arrested both the accused- Pradip Das and Ekadashi Das, the villagers are demanding stern action against the tormentors.

On July 28, the Class VIII student of Kharinasi Upper Primary School was allegedly dragged by both the accused to Pradip’s house and was poured kerosene.  They later set her afire when she shouted for help.

According to sources, Pradip, a resident of the same village was trying to woo the victim for over a year. But he turned furious and committed the ghastly act when the girl did not respond.
