Complaint against Agriculture minister over 'objectionable remarks on women'

Pipili: The Delang unit of BJP Mahila Morcha on Wednesday lodged a police complaint against Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathy over his alleged objectionable comments against women.

Activists of the Mahila Morcha have urged the police to take stringent action against the minister. They also warned to intensify agitation and gherao the police station in case of any inaction.

“A probe will be launched on the basis of the complaint by the BJP workers,” an official of the Pipili PS, Sharat Chandra Sahu said.

Earlier on Wednesday, Maharathy refused to apologise for his statements and clarified that he was misinterpreted. “I am pained and devastated over the developments in last few days following some random comments made by me, which I think have been exaggerated by other people,” he had said.

Some members of women wing of the saffron party intensified its protests and tried to barge into the official residence of the minister. Later they were picked up by the police personnel.
