Bolangir: Tension flared up at Kantabanji Police station in Bolangir district on Sunday after a man was allegedly assaulted by some locals for trying to lodge complaint in connection with assault of his cousin during Republic Day celebration. A sub inspector Pranay Murmu was also manhandled for trying to intervene in the matter.

As per reports, the complainant Bittu Ray had gone to the police station to lodge FIR alleging that his cousin Manoranjan Tandi was assaulted by members of a  rival group at the local Railway Ground.

According to sources, Manoranjan of Sipakpada had gone to watch Republic Day celebration at Kantabanji Railway Ground on Sunday when he was thrashed by the rival group members.

“I had gone to watch Republic Day celebration at Kantabanji railway ground along with my sister when some people picked up a quarrel with me. They threatened to take my sister and do something bad to her. When I protested, they hurled castiest remarks at me and assaulted me,” Manoranjan alleged.

When Manoranjan approached the police station after the assault, his cousin brother Bittu also reached there to lodge a complaint in this connection. Later, the members of the rival group barged into the police station and thrashed Bittu.

Keeping in view the prevailing tension, more personnel have been deployed on the premises of the police station to avoid any untoward incident.

No comments could be obtained from the police regarding the incident.
