Common syllabus in Odisha varsities from 2019-20: HE Minister

Bhubaneswar: In a major development, universities in Odisha will have a common syllabus from the current academic session while the facility will be implemented for all the under graduates, informed State Higher Education Minister Arun Sahoo following a meeting with the Vice-Chancellors of all the varsities today.

The meeting held by Higher Education Department for interaction with the VCs of the State Universities discussed many key aspects regarding development of varsities and students, academically.

Soon after the discussion, Sahoo stated that introduction of uniform syllabus for the students will help them in future while pursuing further higher studies.

This apart, the minister also informed that the Vice-Chancellors have been asked to fill up all the vacant lecturer posts in their respective universities and colleges affiliated under them as soon as possible.

Sahoo further stated that the State government has made provisions to facilitate around 100 aspirants from Odisha appearing for the Civil Services Exams. "So far, 86 students have applied for the same and each of them would be provided with free coaching along with necessary financial assistance," Sahoo added.

Vice Chancellor of Ravenshaw University, Ishan K Patra said that the new system will helpful in conducting exams timely, employability rate and the curriculum will be more useful."Our main concern is that how our students can compete at world level," he added.

Improving the quality of education and motivating students towards study are the main concern of the the entire process, said Rama Devi University's Vice-Chancellor, Padmaja Mishra. She further said that the concerned ministry has given approval of filling vacancies in the institutions and the recruitment process will begin soon.
