The Commissionerate Police on Monday sealed a café named Chai Break, located on the third floor of BMC Bhawani Mall in Bhubaneswar, following allegations of illegal hookah-related activities on the premises..
According to sources, the café was allegedly involved in prohibited narcotic-related activities through hookah services.. Acting on specific inputs about prohibited activities, Saheed Nagar police conducted a raid at the outlet and subsequently sealed it. During the operation, police seized hookah pipes along with several objectionable items from the café.
Police officials stated that the action was taken as part of an intensified drive to curb illegal intoxication and ensure compliance with prescribed norms.
However, the management of Chai Break has strongly denied the allegations. A café staff member claimed that no illegal activity was being carried out at the outlet and that only food was being served.

“No illegal activity is being carried out here. Only food is served at our restaurant. Similar action is being taken against other restaurants as well. Our establishment operates with all valid licences and permissions,” the staff member said.
Meanwhile, no official statement has been issued by the Commissionerate Police or the Excise Department regarding the nature of the seized items or the next course of legal action.
