Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police today busted a human trafficking racket in Khandagiri area of Bhubaneswar.

While six people have been arrested in this connection, efforts are on to bring two of the accused—Azgar Ali Sayyad and Sajid Ali Maniyar, in remand.

Acting on a tip-off, a raid was conducted at a hotel during which 75 passports and application forms of more than 200 aspirants were seized by the police.

Police sources said the members of the gang used to charge people between Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh each towards Visa by assuring them to provide with jobs in countries like Dubai and Kuwait. Later, they used to elope with the money.

The accused used to run the racket under the names—Sky Tour and Travels and Sai Tour and Travels, sources added.

On the other hand, the Commissionerate Police is carrying out investigation to find out since when the fraudsters are involved in the crime, along with the number of people who have been duped and how they used to send people abroad without immigration department’s registration.

According to sources, four of the accused are residents of Maharashtra while police is investigating to find out their involvement in any other crime.

Police Commissioner Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, said, “These people have been arrested in the initial stage of the crime. Had they succeeded in their plan, large number of people would have been cheated. We will ask the court to bring them in remand.”

“We urge everyone to inform us about any such interviews taking place in the city so that we can verify whether those interviews are genuine or not,” added Khurania.
