Mumbai: By 2020, Odisha will become the third best startup hub in the country as already more than 250 startups have registered themselves in the state and the government is committed to provide investors an ‘unmatched support’ for setting up businesses, said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at an investors meet in Mumbai today.
Patnaik met Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani and 300 top industry captains and invited businessmen to participate in the second Make in Odisha Conclave, which will be held in Bhubaneswar from November 11.
Today’s road show was organised by the Odisha government in association with its industry partner Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
"The strength of Odisha lies in its vast resource base, long coastline, assured power and water supply, port-driven development, excellent road network and connectivity, a young and skilled workforce and an industry-friendly and result-oriented government," said Patnaik.
"I am happy to share that Odisha is emerging as the manufacturing hub of eastern India and my government is working tirelessly towards developing the state into a manufacturing hub of South Asia," he added.
It is pertinent to mention here that similar road shows were also organized by Odisha during the first edition of Make in Odisha Conclave held in 2016.
Though Odisha had received 84 proposals with an investment pledged to the tune of Rs 2.03 lakh crore, projects worth Rs 79,369 crore have advanced so far as per the data presented by the State government in Assembly.
“There are several sectors which are unexplored in Odisha and it will help the State to attract more investments,” said FICCI deputy secretary, Arun Chawla.
On the other hand, Odisha’s rank in 'ease of doing business' has dropped to 14th in the country while its rank in investment potential also slipped as per the recent survey of NCAER. Such findings have now emerged as major concerns for industrialists who expressed doubts over the steps taken by the Odisha government to provide friendly business environment.
“The Odisha government needs to recognize the need of industries and investors. The experience of investors was not satisfactory for which Odisha could not fare well in ease of doing business rankings,” said senior journalist, Dilip Satpathy.
