Collectors to take charge of rural electrification

Bhubaneswar:  In an aim to provide electricity in every village in the State by 2012, CM Naveen Patnaik on Thursday directed the district collectors to take necessary measures to ensure rural electrification by 2012.

This instruction by the CM to meet the target was given through video conferencing in the secretariat. Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana and Biju Gram Jyoti Yojana would be implemented to meet the goal.

The CM has also instructed the district collectors to speed up the process of providing electrification to BPL households.

Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana aims to provide access to electricity in the Rural area under the National  Common Minimum Programme launched by Government of India, Ministry of Power in 2005. As Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana has been a massive programme implemented Rural Electrification Corporation; Biju Gramjyoti Yojana is the rural electrification programme of the state Government for the complete electrification of villages.
