Cold conditions across Odisha are likely to intensify further from Christmas onwards, with the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre forecasting a fresh spell of colder weather beginning December 25.
According to the forecast, the cold wave is expected to strengthen due to an increased flow of dry, cold north-westerly winds over the region. Meteorologists also attributed the anticipated drop in temperatures to the departure effect of a western disturbance, which is likely to lead to a further fall in night temperatures across the state.
Dense Fog To Persist
Severe cold conditions accompanied by dense fog are currently prevailing in several parts of Odisha. Weather officials warned that fog intensity may increase further in the coming days due to enhanced moisture-laden air circulation at lower atmospheric levels, potentially affecting visibility across many areas.
IMD Flags Possible Sharp Fall
According to IMD reports, temperatures in Odisha have dipped to record low levels multiple times in certain regions this season. Meteorologists noted that the sharp temperature drop witnessed in early December was in line with earlier IMD predictions, and a similar trend is likely to recur after December 25.

While temperatures are expected to begin falling from Monday, IMD forecasts indicate that some areas may witness a sharp drop of up to seven degrees Celsius during this period.
