Bhubaneswar: A severe cold wave across the state left people shivering as temperature plummeted to as low as zero degrees Celsius at Daringbadi in Kandhamal.

Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur and Kandhamal experienced relentless chill wave with people preferring to stay indoors. The streets in these districts wore a deserted look as fog enveloped the areas till 9.00 am in the morning.

“We are not able to venture out till 9.00 am in the morning. This year the temperature has dropped significantly,” a Phulbani resident said.

Bone-chilling cold stings were experienced at G Udaygiri, Kotapad, Sonepur and Baliguda in Kandhamal district.

Similar was the scene in other parts of the state also.

In Balasore, the mercury registered a continuous drop in the last three days. Keonjhar too was under the grip of cold wave and Kanjipani recorded less than 2 degrees Celsius today. There were even reports of light snowfall in some areas in the district.

“We are facing problems due to the cold wave. We keep ourselves warm by burning bonfires,” a Keonjhar resident said.

However, temperature in coastal districts in the state was warmer as compared to the interior districts.
