Bhubaneswar: Cold wave conditions swept interior parts of Odisha on Friday with Phulbani town in Kandhamal district recording the minimum temperature of 8.2 degrees Celsius, the lowest in the state, an official said.

The drop in mercury is due to passing of Northerly and North-easterly winds across the state, said S C Sahu, director of Indian Meterological Department, here.

Normal life in the Kandhamal district has been thrown out of gear due to the intense cold wave conditions. Meanwhile, a thick blanket of fog enveloped many parts of the district reducing visibility considerably. People were seen putting on their warm cloths especially during evening and early morning hours. Some were seen huddling around bonfires seeking relief from the biting cold.

Other places in the state that recorded 10 degree C are Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Sahu added.

The meteorological centre said the cold wave conditions would continue over some parts of the state for next two days and there would be increase in temperature thereafter.
