Bhubaneswar:  Two days after the state cabinet decided to repossess the leased lands given by the state government for industrial purposes and are lying unutilised for more than three years, dissident MP Pyarimohan Mohapatra on Sunday said that the land return process must be initiated from CM Naveen Patnaik’s ‘close associates.’

Mohapatra said, “MLA Sanjay Das Burma who has been holding a two acre land leased by Industrial Development Corporation of Odisha (IDCO) in the state capital for more than four years, must return it to the state government as the cabinet decided in this regard recently.”

“I am surprised why the cabinet only decided about the Odisha Government Land Settlement Act-1962 and not the IDCO Act under which the government has distributed lands to several prominent individuals,” asked Mohapatra.

He also questioned about the land possessed by Panchayati Raj minister Kalpataru Das. “The minister who has been holding two unutilised lands leased by IDCO under two separate organisations must return to the state government.”

Following the Friday cabinet decision, the state government on Saturday amending the Odisha Govt Land Settlement Act-1962, decided to take back unutilised lands worth Rs 1lakh crore from Puri, Khurdha & Jajpur districts.
