Cuttack: State crime branch police arrested three employees of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation for their alleged involvement in the fake appointment of employees in the civic body.

The crime branch police are investigating into the fake appointments of employees in the CMC since 2008 following a direction from High Court. Earlier the crime branch had submitted a report to the HC opening up a can of worms about the fake appointments in CMC.

Crime branch sleuths told the HC that Prashant Kumar Samal, who was elected as Sarapanch of Bauripada GP of Balasore district in 2003, was a temporary employee of the civic body and received salary from 1996 to July 2007. For a considerable period Samal, a people`s representative continued to receive salary from CMC as an employee, the crime branch police had said in its report to the HC.

The report also indicated that a racket was operating behind fake employees of CMC and like Samal many others were receiving salary from the civic body without doing any work. It was also alleged that about 146 fake appointments were made by the CMC without government approval while another 141 employees were recruited by a non-existent selection committee.
