Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Saturday took stock of the progress of the much awaited 'Smart Janpath' project and directed the officials to complete the construction work in the given deadline.

Patnaik visited the ongoing Smart Janpath Project under the Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) and spent some time understanding the project brief, the progress so far and how the project is going to benefit the citizens in a great way, under the Smart City banner.

Patnaik went through a presentation, inspected the work being undertaken including the specific corridors along the road and expressed his pleasure over the progress.

Senior officials of BSCL, Bhubaneswar Development Authority and BMC informed that the work has started from the Sishubhawan end while redevelopment of Janpath Road includes Streetscape design, beautification, landscaping, intersection redesign and infrastructure upgrades in Bhubaneswar's Town Centre District (Area Based Development) under Smart Cities Mission on Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Mode.

Once completed, the project would be of great help to the residents as it will have dedicated corridor for pedestrians and cyclists as well.

The entire stretch shall have active public plazas, proper crossings on the junctions, street furnitures and dedicated vending zones. Nearly 5.8 km stretch of road will be revamped under the project at an estimated cost of Rs 79.56 crore, sources said.
