Berhampur: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today inaugurated the long-awaited Janibili project in a programme organised at Khallikote college stadium during his one-day visit to Ganjam district. The project, which was started in the year 2014, is expected to resolve the drinking water crisis in Berhampur and nearby villages.

This apart, Patnaik laid foundation stones for 12 projects of Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BMC). He also inaugurated six other projects in the district.

“CM Naveen Patnaik had said that he would take the responsibility of Berhampur and today by inaugurating the project, he proved it. The drinking water problem that the residents of the city has been facing will be solved with the inauguration of the project,” said Berhampur MP, Siddhanta Mahapatra.

Earlier today, BJP members staged protest and opposed the CM’s visit to the district alleging that the ruling-BJD has been fooling people for the last 19 years.

“Due to the fear of losing election in the district, the CM is inaugurating an incomplete project (Janibili project). Opposing such acts of the CM, we are staging peaceful demonstration to aware the people of Berhampur about the failure of BJD government,” alleged a protester.

Later, police detained the protesters ahead of the CM's visit to avoid any untoward incident.
