Bhubaneswar:  Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday declared an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to next of the kin of each two belonging to Nabrangpur district who were among the 27 killed in a Naxal attack in Sukma district of Chhatisgarh on Saturday.

The CM has directed the district administration to disburse the amount today.

Expressing deep grief on the incident, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday had announced Rs 5 lakh each as ex-gratia relief from the National Relief Fund for families of those killed and Rs 50,000 each for those injured in the deadly attack.

About 200 heavily-armed Maoists ambushed a convoy of Congress leaders in Chattisgarh's Sukma district on Saturday, killing 28 people including senior Congress leader Mahendra Karma, state party chief Nand Kumar Patel, his son Dinesh and injuring senior leader V C Shukla and 31 others.

The rebels set off a land mine and opened fire on a convoy of cars carrying local leaders and supporters of Congress party.

The convoy was attacked in a forested area as the party members were returning to the state capital after attending a party rally, police said.
