Bhubaneswar: Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday described legendary Hindustani vocalist Pandit Bhimsen Joshi as a `crownless emperor` of the Indian classical music.

"Joshi`s strains had a great impact on music lovers across the globe," Patnaik said adding that his contribution to revive the Hindusthani classical music was pariseworthy.

"It is the end of an era in the music world," he said.

Josphi passed away at a private hospital in Pune this morning.
