Bhubaneswar: Maoists are unlikely to get any more chance to spread their safe dens in the dense forests of the state, if Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s fresh appeal to the Maoists to return to the mainstream is any indication. Naveen’s urge came in the wake of the country-wide bandh call given by the CPI (Maoists) that evoked a lukewarm response from the state on Wednesday.

The BJD supremo’s invitation to the Maoists to involve themselves in the developmental activities of the state followed Home Secretary UN Behera’s Tuesday statement that the state will no more tolerate the inhuman activities of the red rebels which involved the recent killing of four civilians and four security personnel.

Statements of the duo, which centred around the increasing naxal activities in the state, after the recent Unified Command meeting on May 11 also raised eyebrows among many in the political sphere.
